How to Make a Website
Website making involves the following major steps. These steps are required for constructing a good and effective website. The work involved in the construction of website goes on increasing along with the complexity of the site, i.e its design and functionality.

1.Getting a Domain Name :
A Domain is an identity for a computer, or group of computers, which resemble a website. Example's for Domain name are : "google.com" , "yahoo.com" , "wikipedia.org".
There are two Options
a.Registering a New Domain
These can be bought from many company's called registrar's. Which are accredited by "Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers [ICANN]"
b.Opting for a Subdomain
This is the case with Personal sites who need online presence free of cost.
But for Professional or business Site it is better to have a Domain Name registered for YourSelf or Your Company as it gives the brand name.
Note: Subdomain's are also Used by Companies to divide the task. For Example "mail.yahoo.com" , "news.google.com" etc.

(Even though there are numerous free hosting services{but with limited resources}, it is better to choose paid hosting with all the needed resources).

- Hosting type free, shared , dedicated
- Disc Space it depends on User requirements, It may be from 5mb - huge space
- Bandwidth It depends on traffic(Users per month)
And also on supporting factors like scripting languages(like PHP,Asp.Net),Databases(like MSSQL,MySql) etc. Selection can be made balancing Our(User) requirements and budget.
3.Create Your Web Pages:Simply done in three steps
a.Plan : A plan is the method used to obtain specific results

- Your intended audience.
- The purpose of your site.
- Text for each Web page.
- Tools to use(get them before hand).
Design includes
- Website layout.
- Text color,Link color,Visited link color.
- Background color.
- Images to be used.
- Site Map.
- Use a pre-made HTML template.
- Use an HTML editor.
- Use a text editor and write HTML code.

Double Check Everything. After you have created .html (.htm) files for each of your pages. Check internal Navigation, or any Errors & rectify them, then Upload Files. You need to obtain your username, FTP address and password from your hosting service. Upload files from file manager in your web hosting control panel or Use FTP software(like smartFTP which is free) to transfer files to Server.

Note: Sites that take more than 12 seconds to load lose up to 50% of their visitors. - Search engines view your website as text browsers. So view your site with text browsers to get some understanding. (helpful tool - Lynx).
- Ask your friends, relatives, and colleagues to test your site.

- Write Meta data for each of your web pages.
- Maintain your promotion data in a text file.
- Select your search engines and directories. Add your URL.
- Add an e-mail signature file.
- Promote your Website off-line.
7.Maintenance:
Maintenance is the regular checkup and updation of the site.
Some tips :
- Regularly test the Website.
- Promote it regularly.
- See it's ranking in Search engines.
- Update your content regularly.
- Learn and implement new things close to your website.
